AmeriinfoVets Inc. (AI-Vets), a strategic information technology solutions and services provider for government agencies, is proud to announce that it has been awarded the latest ISO 27001 certification. This certificate demonstrates its commitment to data privacy and security.
AI-Vets has taken a very aggressive approach to become certified. Whereas the average organization takes approximately three months to complete one certification, AI-Vets has completed five in just nine months.
What is ISO 27001?
Organizations of all kinds rely on a set of standards jointly published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The ISO/IEC 27000 family consists of more than a dozen standards aimed at keeping information assets secure. Using these standards enables an organization to manage the security of assets, such as financial information, intellectual property, employee details or information entrusted by third parties.
ISO/IEC 27001 provides requirements for an information security management system (ISMS). ISMS is a documented management system that consists of a set of security controls that protect the confidentiality, availability, and integrity of assets from threats and vulnerabilities.
The basic goal of ISO/IEC 27001 is to protect three aspects of information:
- Confidentiality: Only authorized personnel have the right to access information
- Availability: The information must be accessible to authorized personnel whenever it is needed
- Integrity: Only authorized personnel can change the information
The current version of ISO 27001 is ISO/IEC 27001:2013. This simply means the standard was published in 2013. The previous version was published in 2017.
What are the benefits of ISO/IEC 27001:2013?
Cyberattacks and data breaches are skyrocketing and the financial and reputational damage caused by an inadequate information security strategy can be disastrous. According to IBM, the global average cost of a data breach is $3.86 million. A proactive approach, such as ISO 27001, can help protect an organization against such threats.
The key benefits of ISO 27001 include:
- Reducing the risk of cyberattacks
- Complying with regulations
- Reducing operational costs
- Protecting a company’s assets, shareholders and reputation
With information security breaches now the new normal, security teams are compelled to take dedicated measures to reduce the risk of suffering a damaging breach. By successfully completing the rigorous certification process for ISO 27001:2013, AI-Vets is committed to the highest level of data security.
